Eirene Markenscoff-Papadimitriou, Ph.D.

Associate Specialist, University of California, San Francisco

SFARI Bridge to Independence Fellow

Eirene Markenscoff-Papadimitriou is a postdoctoral fellow at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She received her B.A. from Harvard College and her Ph.D. in neuroscience at UCSF. For her doctoral thesis in the laboratory of Stavros Lomvardas, she explored the regulation of olfactory receptor genes and discovered a unique mode of gene regulation that involves inter-chromosomal interactions in the nucleus.

For her postdoctoral training, Markenscoff-Papadimitriou joined the laboratories of Matthew State and John Rubenstein to study gene regulatory mechanisms in cortical development and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). There, she has used chromatin profiling techniques to identify human neurodevelopmental enhancers and to probe the neurodevelopmental consequences of mutations in ASD risk genes that encode chromatin regulators.
