Jay Gibson is an associate professor of neuroscience at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. As an undergraduate, Gibson studied biophysics at the University of California, Berkeley. Under the guidance of John Maunsell, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Rochester, which focused on neocortical activity related to visual processing. Next, he worked under Barry Connors, studying the electrophysiological properties of inhibitory interneurons in the somatosensory cortex.

Gibson joined the Department of Neuroscience at UT Southwestern in 2001. Currently, his laboratory uses electrophysiological techniques to study the development of cortical circuits and their alterations in mouse models of autism spectrum disorder.
