SFARI is pleased to announce the SFARI Explorer Awards program: an initiative designed to provide timely support to innovative, high-risk experiments relevant to our mission.

SFARI is pleased to announce that it intends to fund 36 grants (15 Pilot Awards and 21 Research Awards) in response to the 2018 Pilot and Research Awards request for applications.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, SFARI ran the fall 2020 science meeting virtually in a series of six weekly webinars, beginning on October 2, 2020. SFARI investigators presented their latest findings in autism research, ranging from autism genetics, through molecular mechanisms and neural circuits, to clinical insights.

Family-organized groups are planning a number of meetings in 2019 for individuals with rare genetic neurodevelopmental conditions, including those due to 16p11.2 copy number variants and mutations in ASXL3, PACS1, PPP2R5D, SCN2A and STXBP1 single genes. SFARI can help to facilitate research opportunities at these meetings by connecting investigators with families.

SFARI hosted a Circuit Dynamics Workshop to explore the role of neural circuits in autism.

SFARI would like to remind investigators to please acknowledge SFARI funding and/or the use of SFARI resources, biospecimens and data in all relevant preprints and publications.

To further our goal of funding the best and most transformative research on autism, SFARI strives to strike a balance between open requests for grant applications (RFAs) on any autism-related topic and more targeted RFAs focused on top priorities identified by SFARI. In 2023, we will hold two calls for Pilot Awards and will reissue the Human Cognitive and Behavioral Science RFA and the Genomics of ASD RFA. We will also issue a call for projects that integrate the study of ASD-relevant behaviors across human and non-human species.

SFARI is pleased to support the Summer Undergraduate Research Program in 2022, working with SFARI Investigators and leading U.S. universities to help provide opportunities for undergraduate students to gain research experience in autism science.

In this blog post, the SFARI science team provides insight into why SFARI’s request for applications grant programs are being revamped, which award types are being changed and how the new changes will be implemented.
