Tae-Kyung Kim is an associate professor and a Distinguished Scholar in Neuroscience at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His work is primarily focused on understanding the genetic and epigenetic pathways that control activity-dependent brain plasticity and how their dysregulation could underlie autism spectrum disorder. His lab made the first genome-wide observation that the key gene regulatory regions, enhancers, have the capacity of driving transcription of noncoding RNAs, termed ‘enhancer RNAs’ (eRNAs). Since then, his research has evolved around defining the molecular basis of eRNA transcription at enhancers and its functional implication in synaptic plasticity and neurological disorders.
