SFARI Investigator Website

Vincent Bonin is a neuroscientist investigating the neural circuits that process sensory information and guide behavior. He is a group leader at Neuro-Electronics Research Flanders (NERF) and an associate professor in the Department of Biology at KU Leuven. Bonin trained in electrical and computer engineering before earning a Ph.D. in neuroscience at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) under Matteo Carandini. He completed postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School with R. Clay Reid.

Bonin’s research combines in vivo imaging, electrophysiology and computational approaches to study cortical and thalamic circuits, with a focus on visual perception, spatial navigation and decision-making. His lab investigates how sensory information is processed across distributed cortical and subcortical pathways and how these circuits support adaptive behavior. Recent work explores human-specific mechanisms of neural circuit maturation and their disruption in neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
