Tal Biron-Shental is the head of the obstestrics and gynecology department of Meir Medical Center, Clalit Healthcare. She is the chairperson of the Israeli Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and a full clinical professor at Tel Aviv University. She earned her M.D. at the Israeli Institution of Technology – the Technion, completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Meir Medical Center and completed a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, where she worked as a researcher in Yoel Sadovsky’s lab focusing on hypoxic placental injury as a model of placental insufficiency. She is currently a maternal fetal medicine specialist, teaching clinical residents and fellows.

Biron-Shental’s main research interest is placental biology. She has studied telomere homeostasis mainly in placentas of pregnancies complicated with preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. She has also studied pregnancy and labor complications and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles regarding those subjects. Biron-Shental is an active member in the committee that writes the obstetrics and gynecology board exams as well as the committee that authors the Israeli guidelines for maternal-fetal medicine.
