Arkady Khoutorsky obtained a D.V.M. degree and a Ph.D. in molecular neuroscience from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel). He then completed his postdoctoral studies with Nahum Sonenberg at the Department of Biochemistry at McGill University. In the Sonenberg laboratory, he discovered new translational control mechanisms involved in synaptic plasticity, learning and memory, and investigated novel approaches to target aberrant translation in fragile X syndrome and autism. In 2016, he joined McGill University as a faculty member.

Khoutorsky’s laboratory studies the role of translational control in synaptic plasticity and memory formation, and investigates how aberrant translation leads to neurodevelopmental disorders such as fragile X syndrome and autism. His group uses a multidisciplinary approach combining electrophysiology, behavioral analysis, imaging and genome-wide transcriptional/translational profiling to decipher the molecular underpinnings of these disorders.
