Kartik Pattabiraman, M.D., Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Yale Child Study Center

SFARI Investigator Website

Kartik Pattabiraman is an assistant professor at the Yale Child Study Center. He received his Sc.B. from Brown University and M.D. and Ph.D. from University of California, San Francisco. He completed his Ph.D. thesis work in the laboratory of John Rubenstein studying the gene regulatory networks involved in early cortical patterning.

Currently, Pattabiraman is in the last year of an integrated research residency program and will complete training in both adult and child psychiatry. Concurrently, he has been working in the laboratory of Nenad Sestan studying the role of retinoic acid signaling in mid-fetal prefrontal cortical development and evolution. Integrating molecular, developmental and circuit-based approaches, Pattabiraman plans to study the mechanisms involved in cortical circuit assembly and explore how disruption of in utero cortical circuit development can alter developmental trajectories. Pattabiraman hopes to translate these basic science findings into early life diagnostic and targeted preventative interventions for autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia.
