Robi Mitra, Ph.D.

Alvin Goldfarb Distinguished Professor of Computational Biology, Washington University in St. Louis

SFARI Investigator

Robi Mitra is the Alvin Goldfarb Professor of Computational Biology in the Department of Genetics and the Edison Family Center for Genome Sciences and Systems Biology at Washington University in St. Louis.  He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Mitra lab develops genomic technologies and uses them to understand the transcriptional networks that govern neural development. They are interested in understanding 1) how transcription factors achieve their in vivo specificities, 2) the logic behind how transcription factor binding events are translated by the cell into the expression of target genes and 3) how regulatory networks produce phenotypes. To answer these questions, they are developing novel bulk- and single-cell methods to produce a molecular memory of transcription factor binding.
